Description
Provide manufacturing engineering support and continuous improvement for all production products. Create or facilitate creation, review and update manufacturing processes and methods for production processes. Using a foundation of lean manufacturing, initiate and implement product improvements and cost reduction efforts. Develop and maintain production related documentation. Support qualification of suppliers according to company standards. Monitor parts from acquisition through manufacturing cycle, communicate and resolve supplier-related problems as they occur. Support evaluation of suppliers' internal functions to assess their overall performance and provide feedback in assessment of their operation.
Manage the ECO process and facilitate the execution of the change process from initiation of an ECR to release of product.
Review designs and collaborate with designers to ensure DFM. Assist design engineering by providing manufacturing requirements for new designs, relating to product costs, reliability and production. Participate in engineering reviews. Apply manufacturing knowledge (understand manufacturing capability) to make recommendations on how to assemble and design test fixtures to reduce manufacturing risk.
Work with engineering to assist in the building of pre-production systems to ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing.
Approve and authorize (as appropriate) the release of drawings and specifications from engineering to production. Support the release of mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications as required.
Write, review and approve (as appropriate) ECO's for all related products. Ensure that all ECO's are written to be cost effective and increase the reliability and quality of the system.
Create, develop and maintain manufacturing documentation concerning fixtures, testing, maintenance, manufacturing floor layout, process flows and acceptance criteria for all optical sub-assemblies and products. Be able to recommend changes to the process flow in order to optimize manufacturing yield, performance and efficiency.
Provide test fixtures for mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies, as required to support production technicians with training and knowledge of production processes.
Participate on the material review board (in process and incoming) to determine the disposition of rejected materials
Investigate production related failures and provide corrective actions.
Compiles and analyzes statistical data to evaluate process performance and supplier quality. Coordinate with Quality Assurance Manager and utilize Six-Sigma techniques where applicable.
Develops, maintains and improves incoming test and inspection processes, procedures, equipment and standards.
Develops, maintains and improves a supplier process/certification program.
Helps recommend new and alternate sources of supply.
Interface with field service and quality to evaluate documented failures and assist in developing corrective actions to improve product reliability.
Provide support for other departments, as required, to ensure manufacturing requirements have been met.
Perform other job related duties as required.
Complex problem solving utilizing root cause analysis and structured problem solving tools.
Ability to collect, review and interpret statistical data and information to evaluate and develop options
and implement manufacturing solutions.
Ability to analyze, develop, and propose strategies that will improve manufacturing efficiencies,
reduced costs and improved throughput.
Understanding of lean tools, 5S methodologies, six sigma, kaizen, DFM, DFT
Ability to develop lean work flows and create value stream maps.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and standards.
Demonstrated project & priority planning, multitasking and communication skills. Team player.
Desired technical knowledge of photonics and optoelectronic devices, manufacturing processes and
handling methods.
Knowledge and understanding a wide variety of manufacturing processes.
Data analysis and reporting, ability to use reporting tools for presentation and discussion.
Experience:
BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics or equivalent.
Minimum of three years, hands on, demonstrated manufacturing engineering experience.
Demonstrated ability to work to demanding schedules and manage risks inherent in specific product development requirements.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
